Kali is the fierce Goddess who challenges any practitioner to
unify both the creative and destructive forces. She appears with her foot on the
chest of Shiva, her husband, as she whirls in her dance of destruction and also
rides his body in sexual ecstasy. Although she appears bloodthirsty, her aim is
to wipe out demonic forces as a symbol of empowerment for women. Ultimately,
she is the perfect model of female balance. She returns to women the three virtues:
strength, intellect and knowledge, and sexual sovereignty.
